When Hurricane Helene devastated western North Carolina in 2024, roads were destroyed and communities were cut off from the outside world. While government agencies mobilized, it was general aviation pilots and non-profit organizations like the Carolina Aviators Network who moved first, flying hundreds of thousands of pounds of supplies into remote mountain airstrips.
